                                                                                                   Premium Shelters

The premium shelters at Cooper Lake State Park are an excellent choice for campers who prefer more amenities than a screened shelter, but not necessarily all of the luxuries of a fully furnished cabin. The premium shelters are cozy abodes furnished with heating and air, a refrigerator, and a microwave oven. The premium shelter sleeps five people with two sets of bunk beds. One set of bunks offers two twin beds and the other a twin on top with a full size on the bottom. Campers will need to provide their own pillows and linens. The premium shelters can be found in the Doctor’s Creek Unit and South Sulphur Unit of Cooper Lake State Park. These sites are equipped with a picnic table, water hydrant, lantern hook, and a fire ring. It is conveniently located within walking distance of the showers, bathrooms, and the Sunset Cove fishing pier at the South Sulphur Unit. Checkout time is 1:00 PM and check in time is 3:00 PM or earlier if your premium shelter is available. Pets are not allowed inside, although they are allowed outside provided they are on a leash or in a kennel and are not left unattended. Smoking is also not allowed in the premium shelters. Inside occupation of the premium shelter is limited to five people with a maximum of eight people at the site. If you enjoy camping, but prefer some of the comforts of home as well, a premium shelter is perfect.
                                                          Hope to see you soon!

Friends of Doctors Creek Park Fish Fry Big Success
August 21, 2010

The Friends of Doctors Creek Park would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our friends that bought tickets from Edwin Slough and also to the ones that came and paid at the door.  With your generous donations and help the fish fry this year on Aug. 21st  was a huge success.  Thanks to the ladies that so willingly made cakes for the auction and thanks to Danny Lile for auctioning them off.  The cakes sold real well and added a good sum to the fish fry donations. Thanks to the Parks and Wildlife crew that helped with the serving and thanks to the cooks that braved the heat cooking outside in the 100 degree plus weather. And don’t forget the ones that worked hard in the kitchen getting the food ready for the crowd that stood in line patiently waiting to get inside.  The Gym at the First Baptist Church was full of our friends that came for a good meal and to support the Friends of Doctors Creek Park and waiting around for the numerous door prizes that Mary Wicks collected from the businesses in the Cooper, Commerce and Sulphur Springs areas.  Last but sure not least, we want to thank our sponsors that donated cash and the Cooper ISD that donated some of the fish, Rick Murray that donated hush puppies, Burgers and Beans donating the coleslaw dressing, Scotty Stegall for the potatoes and the Delta Super Market for a number of items including the coleslaw mix. The Cooper Dairy Queen donated to go plates. Saying all of this, the Friends of Doctor Creek Park held the cost of the fish fry to a minimum and are proud to say that with everyone’s help and support, a sizeable sum was made for the Fishing Pier at Doctors Creek Park. Again, we appreciate all the volunteers, all our friends support and everyone that helped make this years annual fish fry a big, big success. If anyone that helped has been omitted, please accept our apology.

Donations will be appreciated and everyone is encouraged to join the Friends as members by paying annual dues in the amount of Family $25, Individuals $10, Businesses $50 and Non-Profit Organizations $25. Doctors Creek Park still needs the support of the Friends of Doctors Creek Park and they need all of us so that our beautiful park will not be endangered of ever being closed again.

We have a supply of Friends T-Shirts for Sale at $13.00 if you would like to buy one. If you have questions, please call Gracie Young at 903-395-4314.

NEWS ABOUT THE FISHING PIER AT DOCTORS CREEK PARK

We are real excited, at our Friends of Doctors Creek Park, Inc. Board
meeting on Sept. 7th, the board approved to go ahead and build the Fishing
Pier at Doctors Creek Park.  The great success at the fish fry this year
along with the help of donations, we have money to pay for the fishing pier
that has been promised.  This is the goals of the Friends of Doctors Creek
Park, to help the park and do what we can to make it an enjoyable place for
our visitors to have fun and enjoy life.  Also, a lot of people does not
know that you can fish without a license in any State Park in Texas.  There
is an entrance fee to the park but as long as you are not in a boat on the
lake, you can fish without a license.  This is one way that this fishing
pier will come in handy for fisherman in the park. This will even help all
out-of-town visitors.

Membership in the Friends of Doctors Creek Park, Inc. is greatly
appreciated and your support is needed.
Annual dues are due and payable on July 1 in the amount of:
Individuals $10, Family $25 and Businesses $50

Anyone wishing to help with donations for the Fishing Pier can contact
Gracie Young at 903-395-4314 or
mail to:  Friend's of Doctor's Creek Park at P. O. Box 14, Cooper, TX 75432.
